There are lots of helpful organisations and charities out there offering support, advice, and helpful information. Here are a few that I have found useful.
ADHD Foundation
The ADHD Foundation has become the largest user-led organisation of its kind in Europe, offering support to those with neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, Autism, DLD, Dyslexia
National Autistic Society
The National Autistic Society offers support, guidance, and resources for autistic people and their families. They also work to improve public understanding and campaign for better services and support
Made by Dyslexia
Made By Dyslexia is a global charity led by successful dyslexics. We are the world’s largest community of dyslexic people and their allies. Their mission is to teach the world the brilliance of Dyslexic Thinking, and to empower it in every home, every workplace, and every school
Afasic
Afasic supports and provides information for families with children and young adults who have Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) with a focus on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
ASLTIP
The Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP). Provides information and a contact point for members of the public searching for a private speech and language therapist.
DLD and ME
A website for kids and teenagers to learn about Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and to share how they've told others.
RCSLT
The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the professional body for speech and language therapists in the UK.
HCPC
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is the regulatory body in the UK that sets and maintains professional standards for a range of health and care professions, including Speech and Language Therapists. You can visit their website to check that your therapist is fully registered and qualified to practise.
IPSEA
A charity in the field of SEND law in England, who provide free and independent legal advice and support to families of children and young people with SEND. They also provide training on the SEND legal framework.
Tiny Happy People
The BBC’s Tiny Happy People is a free website that helps parents and carers support their child's early language and communication through simple tips, activities, and advice from pregnancy to age five
STAMMA
STAMMA is the UK's leading charity for people who stammer. They offer free, confidential support through a helpline, webchat, and email, alongside resources for families, educators, and employers. STAMMA also runs awareness campaigns to challenge stigma and promote understanding of stammering.
Speech & Language UK
Speech & Language UK is a national charity dedicated to supporting children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs. They provide resources and guidance for families and professionals, offer training programs. Their mission is to ensure that every child can communicate effectively and confidently
Sunshine Support
Sunshine Support is an award-winning UK organisation that empowers and advocates for parents, carers, and professionals supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). They offer independent advice, legal advocacy, and training to help families navigate systems like EHCPs, appeals, and social care, ensuring children receive the support they need to thrive.
